INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis Power & Light Company is warning customers to be mindful of how they’re paying their bills.

The utility company said it’s received a number of reports that customers are being contacted by someone claiming to be from IPL and demanding payment. The caller threatens to disconnect electric service. In each case, the caller is telling customers to use a green.dot Money Pak card to pay their IPL bill.

IPL said it will have specific, accurate information about customer accounts if they call. The utility also doesn’t recommend any specific way to pay a bill. Anyone unsure of who contacted them should call IPL.

If someone has received one of these calls, IPL urges them to call police.
