INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A vice principal with Indianapolis Public Schools was arrested after police said he had a relationship with a student.
IPS George Washington High School Vice Principal Corey Greenwood, 41, was arrested and preliminarily charged with four counts of child seduction, a Class D felony, according to police.
“During interviews and an investigation into this (the detective) felt there was enough evidence and an arrest was made of Mr. Greenwood,” says Public Information Officer for IMPD Anthony Schneider.
Greenwood is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student at his home. A George Washington High School student first alerted police that her best friend was having sexual relations with Greenwood, according to an IMPD report.
Students are shocked as sophomore Zachary Daniels tries to understand what happened.
“Everybody is cool with him. I mean, you walk by him and, 'What's up Greenwood?' It's just crazy really. I never expected nothing like this," Daniels said.
The report was first taken by IPS Police and then turned over to the IMPD Sex Offense Unit for investigation.
Greenwood was suspended by the school system with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, IPS officials said. He's been with the school system for 12 years.
IPS officials released a short statement Friday morning.
"The trust built between students and staff is sacred," the statement said. "IPS is saddened that Mr. Greenwood breached this trust. We will continue to cooperate fully with IMPD as this case moves forward."
