INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - September 16 through 22 is National Child Passenger Safety Week, and the Indiana State Police wants to provide citizens with tips on how to keep child passengers safe.
ISP says in a release that approximately 85 percent of all child safety seats are being misused nationally.
Troopers want to encourage parents to take a few extra minutes to ensure the safety of their children and that they are restrained properly.
Last year, 90 children under the age of 16 were killed in Indiana and nearly 7,000 were injured in crashes, police say.
Indiana's Child Restraint Law:
All children under the age of 8 must be properly restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat according to the child restraint system manufacturer's instructions. Many parents are confused about the law, so troopers want to help explain the proper and legal way to restrain their children.
Indiana State Police would like to remind parents and others who transport children the following safety tips:
