INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis college student died during a study abroad trip, university officials said.
IUPUI student Samantha Hale died on Thursday in Greece after a fall from a fourth floor balcony weeks earlier, officials said.
Hale had fallen from the balcony on June 29 — the night students in Hale's group were going to return to Indianapolis. The fall critically injured her. She was hospitalized in Greece, where her family and other IUPUI staff members had gone to support her.
"Like any family, we celebrate our accomplishments and we grieve when any one of us suffers an injury or a loss," IUPUI officials said in a statement.
IUPUI plans to honor Hale in its annual Day of Remembrance in December. The School of Informatics is also discussing ways to honor her, university officials said.
