INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Saturday morning was Indianapolis Public Schools “Kindergarten Countdown” at the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Central Library.

The statewide program helps incoming IPS kindergartners increase their reading scores through kickoff events and a free four-week summer readiness camps.

Children enrolled in the program received a free uniform shirt, health screenings, immunizations, books and school supplies courtesy of Indiana University Health and United Way of Central Indiana.

A release stated that this year, IU Health and United Way are expanding the program by offering a several-month long early reading program geared at at-risk children and staffed by IU Health employees and IPS teachers.
