INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The IMPD Leadership Academy began on Monday.

Members of the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department, Carmel Police Department and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department are participating in addition to IMPD.

The group meets once a month for four months to train on leadership skills through real-life scenarios.

Sgt. Thomas Westrick, coordinator of the academy, said it helps veterans in the police force lead better. It also helps improve the quality of police departments who participate, he said.
