INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Witnesses reported an apartment fire in northeastern Marion County on Thursday was sparked by lightning.
Firefighters were called to the Lake Castleton Apartments, in the 7800 block of Musket Street - near Shadeland Avenue and 75th Street - just before 8 p.m. Thursday.
Residents reported seeing lightning, then discovering smoke billowing from the roof of the apartment complex.
Indianapolis Fire Department said eight of the 12 families that live in the building were displaced by the fire. Damage was estimated at $250,000.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Power to the building was out late Thursday evening, but was to be restored to at least some units before the night was out.
A crew was on scene boarding up the damaged units Thursday evening.
IFD will conduct an investigation to determine if lightning was indeed the cause of the fire.
