INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - As many as 8,000 volunteers are participating in Eli Lilly’s annual Day of Service on Thursday.
Some changes Hoosiers will see are to the fairgrounds, where volunteers will paint and remove plants.
Other changes will be to local waterways: Eagle Creek, Fall Creek, Central Canal, Pogue's Run and Pleasant Run. Volunteers will remove trash and invasive plants with the goal of making the waterways a more appealing destination for Hoosiers.
Another area to see volunteers will be Ivy Tech’s downtown campus, where work on an outdoor learning area will begin.
Volunteers will also clean storm drains and apply "no dumping" reminders to thousands, urging folks to keep trash out of storm drains.
In addition, biodegradable stakes will be placed around city storm drains. The stakes have Black Eyed Susan plants weaved into the paper and will turn into flowers in several months.
Volunteers will be out from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
