John Green sells out Carnegie Hall

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana author John Green sold out Carnegie Hall in New York City Tuesday evening.  But audiences around the country took part in what Green called the celebration of the one year anniversary of his book, "The Fault In Our Stars," by way of live streaming the event at libraries.

The Marion County downtown library hosted a viewing of the Carnegie event at its auditorium.

Green is a New York Times bestselling author, with five books to his name. He has sold the movie rights to "The Fault In Our Stars" and "Looking for Alaska."

John Green and his brother Hank, whose "Vlogbrothers" series on Youtube has attracted over 300 million views, have a following that is only growing. IUPUI freshman Noah Leigh follows Green and attended Tuesday night's event. 

"They've created a group of intelligent people who love to do things that improve the world. Plus his books are really good."

Marion County Public Library CEO, Jackie Nytes, says Green's popularity means a lot of "holds" are placed on his book.  Her staff has had to purchase more copies of  "The Fault In Our Stars" to keep up with demand. 

Green was also named The Indiana Author of the Year in 2012, and she's very pleased he chose to write
a portion of his book at the downtown library. 

"This is a man who could live or work in lots of places," said Nytes. "The fact that he feels productive and creative here is a wonderful comment for our city."

"The Fault in Our Stars," which was recently named Time Magazine's top book of the year, could soon be made into a movie, that Nytes believes adults will like as much as teens.

"He's exploring some topics, some things in a way are thoughtful, people have a lot of respect for that kind of writing."

Green was joined onstage by his younger brother, Hank.

Tuesday's event was a combination of readings of John's book, guitar solos by Hank Green and music from the band, The Mountain Goats.

Last year, Green and his brother started a short-format education video series entitled Crash Course, where John teaches world history, and Hank Green teaches biology.
