INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Marion County Public Health Department now has the power to broadcast a critical swine flu alert to more than 3,700 healthcare providers in the county.
The alert was delivered by a clinical messaging service to remind healthcare providers to be careful in identifying possible cases of swine flu. It also included symptoms, recommendations, and resources for a person diagnosed with swine flu.
No swine flu cases have been reported in Marion County. But, the alert was ordered after nearly 100 new cases were reported statewide and six pigs were diagnosed at the State Fair. The pigs were removed from the fair early.
Physicians say the new system allows alerts to be sent to healthcare providers in a timely manner. They say it is another step in improving the healthcare system.
