INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - IU Health plans an internal investigation after a discharged patient walked out of University Hospital unattended Thursday.

Ruben Aguayo had been undergoing tests for seizures at University Hospital for days. He was suffering from severe headaches that would cause him to become not lucid.

The 47-year-old was discharged Thursday at 7 a.m., but his wife didn't arrive to pick him up until 9 a.m. By that time, Aguayo was gone.

Hospital security searched the campus for him and officers looked through security video but nothing led to Aguayo. His wife Keitha Aguayo spoke to 24-Hour News 8 around 6 Thursday evening, more than ten hours after he was last heard from.

As she explained how worried she was, her phone rang with some good news.

"He walked all the way there to IU North in Carmel. When he has these episodes or these spells like, he kind of like goes into a daze. He doesn't actually black out but, it's kind of like he's not there," said Keitha Aguayo.

Ruben Aguayo was found unharmed.
