INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are searching for the person who they say broke into a man's west side home and shot and killed him.
Shortly before midnight Tuesday, police were sent to the 1800 block of North Holmes Avenue on a report that a person had been shot.
Inside the home police found an unidentified male in his 50s suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
Police said the front door had been kicked in and several shots were fired inside the home.
The identity of the victim and manner of death will be confirmed after an autopsy is conducted.
Investigators are talking with potential witnesses in an effort to determine the events that happened just prior to the shooting.
Detectives said they are seeking information on the whereabouts and/or occupants of a white Dodge Neon with a black front end bra.
Anyone with information should call IMPD detectives at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous, and information that leads to felony arrest may be eligible for cash reward.
