Man kills wife then searches for help

CUMBERLAND, Ind. (WISH) - A Cumberland man admits to killing his wife Saturday.

The incident happened on the 900 block of Washington Cove. Cumberland Police say Chun Shik Shin, 68, strangled his wife, 57-year-old Youngsook Shin.

Police found the victim inside the couples' Cumberland home.

"It''s a scary thought, and you never know what to think," said neighbor Sandra Hieser.

Neighbors tell 24-Hour News 8 that they know very little about the couple.

One neighbor described the husband as a quiet man who kept to himself. The wife was a woman who neighbors say rarely left the home.

The couples home sat empty on Saturday afternoon. Investigators even sealed the front door to protect evidence inside the home.

Detectives tell 24-Hour News 8 that Shin is Korean and he doesn't speak English well.

Instead of calling 911 after the murder Shin drove around looking for a police officer. He flagged an off duty officer down at 10th and Mithoffer.

"It's tragic for the family, I feel sorry for them and will keep them in my prayers," said Anthony Southern.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

A translator is working with investigators to detail what happened inside the home before the murder.
