INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man lost his dog and his home was badly damaged in a fire late Sunday afternoon.

Two people driving by the home in the 2800 block of North Ritter Avenue noticed the fire and ran up to the home to check if anyone was home.

After realizing the home was unoccupied, they alerted the fire department, who upon arrival found fire showing from the front side of the home.

They began their attack and had the fire under control in less than twenty minutes

Sadly, firefighters say a Great Dane was lost in the fire.

The home did not have any working smoke detectors and the fire is still under investigation.
