INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Members of the group “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense" held at rally on the steps on the Statehouse Saturday morning. The group has been spreading their message throughout the state all the way to Washington DC since the Sandy Hook tragedy.
The organization started out by a mom in Zionsville as a grass roots effort for gun control in response to the deadly shooting. It's now exploded with more than 70,000 members and 80 chapters across the country.
On Saturday morning Indiana members held a rally at the statehouse pushing lawmakers to support gun control laws. Members want universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons and better gun trafficking laws
“The kids in this country are too important to just stand back and say nothing and just let the NRA decide how things are run. In this country over 100,000 people are shot that’s just ridiculous,” says Nicki McNally one of the group’s organizers.
The group was formerly called One Million Moms for Gun Control. They recently changed their name as another organization focused on family friendly television, had a similar name.
The group will be marching in Washington DC on Wednesday.
