INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Customers on the west side of Indianapolis were without power for a period of time Sunday night.

Representatives with Indianapolis Power and Light Company say a tree fell on a power line, causing over 2,000 customers to be without power.

IPL says when an incident of this sort happens, an automatic signal is sent out to shut down power. It cannot be corrected until crews arrive to the scene.

Of the 2,000 customers, half were restored with power around 6:30 p.m.

All customers were expected to have power back by 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.

The area with the highest impact was north of 30th Street and south of 38th Street in Speedway.
