An Indianapolis mother is pleading for information from the public, after her son was shot while walking along 30th Street near Capitol Avenue on Saturday night.
Tahara Brasher says her son, 21-year-old Tavein Brasher, and his cousin, 19-year-old Jarrett Hall, were simply walking to the gas station when they were both shot around midnight. Now she's begging that those who know something speak up.
“I can’t lay my baby to rest until I know what happened to him, because that's my heart. And when they stopped my son's heart from beating, they stopped mine too," said Tahara Brasher, Tavein’s mother.
Brasher says Tavein graduated in 2010 from Ben Davis High School. He was working at Target.
“It was so hard for me to wake up without him, knowing he couldn’t tell me he loved me anymore, And I couldn’t tell him I love him anymore. That's why I need somebody, please, if you know anything, call the police department, let them know,” said Brasher.
Brasher said Tavein had been taking care of his grandparents Saturday evening. She said he was walking to the gas station with his cousin when the shooting happened.
Bullets hit the fire station nearby, and no one was hurt there. But Hall was shot in the leg, and Tavein was killed.
Police are still actively investigating this case and tell 24-Hour News 8 they’re looking for a dark colored vehicle that may have been involved.
Neither man shot had a criminal history with IMPD.
Brasher said her son was a good man.and not a troublemaker. She’s not sure if the shooting was random, or intentional.
“It’s so important to figure out why. Why they did that to him,” she said. “He was just a good young man, and I don’t know what I'm going to do without him.”
Brasher is planning a memorial service near the site where her son died on Wednesday evening.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous, and information that leads to felony arrest may be eligible for cash reward.
