Museum event honors Black History Month

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Inspirational and spiritual music could be heard from the Indiana State Museum Saturday morning in honor of Black History Month.

Choirs from a number of local schools performed at the Sankofa Black Heritage Festival.

There were also a number of dance performances, food, games, arts and craft activities and cultural exhibits for visitors to enjoy.

The event was emceed by 24-Hour News 8’s Julian Grace.

"The name is Sankofa for the Black History Month Festival,” said Bruce Williams with the Sankofa Black Heritage Festival. “We are wanting people to be focusing on African American history and obviously we came for the continent Africa. We want to focus on West African Culture."

There was also a showing of the film "African-American Inventors" that went alongside with educational exhibits.
