Name change for popular streets in the works

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - More than 2,100 people have signed off to change the name of a portion of Senate Avenue and St. Clair Street.

The petition comes after Specialist Paramedic Cody Medley and IEMS Private Tim McCormick were killed in a fatal accident.

Some business owners are concerned the move would cause confusion.

"I thought it was a nice gesture," said Chris Greenlee Controller of  Marabaugh Reprographics. "When you change portion of a street it only leads to confusion."

Changing street names in honor of public servants has been done before. In 2011, a stretch of Rural was renamed David S. Moore Parkway.

A gunman shot and killed the IMPD officer as he performed a traffic stop.

The plan to rename a portion of the street has been met with mixed reaction.

Joe Fields is owner of CODA computers, just off of Senate. He is in favor for the name change. Fields added the city often changes major street names for major events such as the Superbowl and Big Ten Tournaments.

"It is exactly what we should do for the sacrifices these individuals made," said Fields.
