New owners aim for change at troubled club

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police are investigating a stabbing outside a troubled westside nightclub Indianapolis – but the new owners of the business said they’re eager to work with police to bring peace to the area.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said a 22-year-old man was stabbed in the chest in the parking lot of Cloud 9, 5010 W. 38th St., just before 3 a.m. Monday .

This is the second time in two months that a violent crime has been tied to the club. In June, two brothers, Andre Stennett-Harrod, 21, and LaVonne Harrod, 24, were shot and killed at Georgetown Road and 38th Street after leaving the club.

IMPD’s file on the club shows in 2010, police responded to the club 59 times. In 2011 it was 41 times. So far this year, there have been 13 runs there.

But in the past week, the previous owners of the club sold it to a new group. That group said it is working with IMPD to help change the image of the business. One of those changes includes scheduling more events for the over-30 crowd.

When asked if the club should be shut down, one activist said the new owners deserve another chance.

"I don't think that is the answer if the management can find solution to rectify the problem,” said the Rev. Malachi Walker.
