INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Six people were displaced when a home caught fire Wednesday morning on the city’s near north side.
Crews were sent to the home just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, and fire officials say two people were home when the blaze began.
A mother and her 18-year-old son awoke to heavy smoke in the home, as fire officials say the house didn't have any working smoke detectors. The mother's sister and another three children, ages 10-13, were not home at the time.
No one was injured in the fire, which was near Carrollton Avenue and East 28th Street. Firefighters believe the fire started on the second floor and may be electrical in nature.
The fire left about $30,000 in damages. The residents planned to stay with family members.
