Northside condo fire under investigation

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A fire at the Heron Lake Condominiums Tuesday night remains under investigation.

Firefighters were called to the 5000 block of Allisonville Road at 8:13 p.m.

Smoke was seen coming from a structural column support for balconies to the three-story condos. Residents told investigators they could not figure out how the fire started outside their condos.

No one had used a grill or any form of electricity near the structure which burned.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. Damage is estimated at $20,000.

Although it did not affect fighting the fire, problems were caused when impatient drivers intentionally drove their cars over fire hoses that were stretched across East 52nd Street.

Firefighters report their five inch water supply hose was broke sending water into the air like a geyser.

The Indianapolis Fire Department reminds the public under no circumstances should someone drive over a fire hose charged with water.
