INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The officer who helped after a dog attacked an elderly woman Sunday has been nominated for a departmental award of bravery.

Sgt. Bradford Bentley of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department nominated Patrolman Robert Carver to receive one of the department’s highest honors for his role in saving the life of a citizen who was viciously attacked by a dog at her home on Sunday .

The nomination will go to an IMPD awards committee for their consideration. The committee would vote on his nomination and it could be awarded at a ceremony in June.

The IMPD Medal of Bravery is presented to an officer for an act that places the officer in personal danger during the saving or attempted saving of a human life. The action performed should be one that clearly demonstrates the officer's extreme courage, ability, and willingness to act while consciously facing a risk of personal danger.
