MARION COUNTY (WISH) - One driver is in critical condition after crashing his car on the northeast side early Monday morning.

The accident occurred on the 4500 block of Kessler Boulevard just west of Binford Boulevard.

Around 3:30 a.m., a resident on Kessler called police saying he or she saw a vehicle that had crashed into a neighbor’s concrete mailbox.

Officers at the scene say it appears driver Darren Houpt lost control of a 2003 white Lincoln Aviator and flipped as the car left the roadway. The crash threw Houpt from the vehicle. He was found lying in the middle of the road.

An open alcoholic beverage was found inside the vehicle.

Houpt was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition. He was unconscious upon arrival.
