INDIANAPOLIS, IN.(WISH) - South street from Pennsylvania to East streets is expected to close on July 9 and stay closed through the remainder of the summer for improvements.

Delaware Street will remain open with lane restrictions, while crews work to beautify the area. The project is part of RebuildIndy streetscape.

City leaders say the project involves construction work on South Street and the conversion of Delaware Street from Maryland to McCarty streets to a two-way street. Improvements will include street resurfacing, new traffic signals, new access ramps, curbs and sidewalks.

Crews say South street between Ogden and East streets will be open to local traffic only.

South Street between Pennsylvania and Delaware Streets will be open to westbound traffic only for a portion of this closure.

The project will cost of approximately $2.9 million and is being funded through RebuildIndy with proceeds from the transfer of the city's water and wastewater utilities to Citizens Energy Group.

The project is scheduled to be complete in December 2012.
