INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A pedestrian was killed when he was struck as he got off a bus Friday night, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said.

Police said the driver of a rental box truck didn't see a man who had just exited an IndyGo bus and struck him at about 7:45 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Michigan Road and 50th Street. The pedestrian, James Carpenter, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a man in his 50s, was taken for a blood draw, but police said alcohol didn't appear to be a factor in the crash. There were two other people in the truck at the time of the crash.

IMPD expected southbound traffic to remained blocked on Michigan Road until about 10:45 p.m. Friday; northbound lanes were open as of 9:30 p.m.
