INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says a pedestrian was struck and killed in the Fountain Square area Tuesday night.
According to police, 20-year-old Joseph Anthony Scott Crandall was driving south on Shelby Street in a red van when he made a turn on Prospect heading west. The driver jumped the curb and struck two pedestrians.
One of the pedestrians was dragged underneath the van. He was pronounced dead on scene.
The second pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Aaron Schaler, was thrown against another vehicle. He was taken to Wishard Hospital in stable condition.
Police say the driver did not break, but eventually stopped in the parking lot of a nearby PNC Bank. Police interviewed the driver and believe there are no signs of impairment or intoxication.
Police will draw blood from the driver, which is standard protocol after a fatality.
Shelby and Prospect Streets are closed while police investigate.
