INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A woman was arrested Friday morning after a fatal accident involving her fiancé.
According to police reports, Donna L. Miner backed up her SUV, striking her fiance, 50-year-old Jeffrey Hawkins.
This happened after the two left That Place Bar and Grille, 8810 S. Emerson Ave., around 2 a.m. When medics arrived, Hawkins was suffering from a head injury and was later pronounced dead at Wishard Memorial Hospital.
According to a report, Miner met her Hawkins at the bar around 10 p.m. They got into an argument and it continued outside. Hawkins threw a salad she was eating in her direction but hit his vehicle in the parking lot.
The argument then calmed down and they both got inside the vehicle.
Miner said she had a conversation with Hawkins about who was in a better position to drive and how they would get Miner’s vehicle home, according to the report. Hawkins told Miner that he would drive her car home.
He then got out of the vehicle.
The report said Miner told police she thought he was going back into the bar. She said she saw him walking toward the back of the vehicle from the passenger side. She then put the car in reverse to go toward her vehicle in the lot and unknowingly ran over him.
Miner was arrested after police say her speech was slurred and they could smell alcohol on her breath. She was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle causing a death, a Class C felony.
Representatives at the bar declined a request for an interview.
