Police chase ends in crash, shots fired, arrest

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man faces charges including attempted murder after police said he crashed into a police car during a chase over several highways Thursday morning.

The chase started in Johnson County after Franklin Police were called at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday to a domestic problem at a residence on Dowden Drive. The initial report said a man broke into his brother's home and that someone had a weapon.

As police arrived, the suspect, Lawrence Mulry, 42, took off in his car, leading police on a chase north on Interstate 65. 

Police said the man rammed a police car near Interstate 465 and I-65 on the south side of Indianapolis and continued onto I-465. Thinking that the suspect had struck the officer, another officer fired shots at him, Franklin Police Department said in a news release. The driver's side window of the suspect's vehicle was shot out.

Police got the vehicle stopped at I-465 and U.S. 31 South. When the suspect attempted to run away, a Johnson County Sheriff's Department police dog was used to apprehend him.

Mulry now faces preliminary charges of attempted murder, reckless driving, operating while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated - endangerment, operating while suspended prior, resisting law enforcement, mischief, battery and intimidation.
