INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The man suspected of impersonating a city employee turned himself in Wednesday.

Mark Hoffman surrendered to a warrant charging him with forgery and impersonation of a public servant.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police say Hoffman collected approximately $5000 from an elderly woman while posing as a building inspector.

Hoffman is being held on $150,000. He faces unrelated charges of forgery, prescription drug offenses and possession of a controlled substance.

The Department of Code Enforcement wants citizens to know all inspectors have photo identification, drive marked city vehicles and never accept payment in person.
