INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says a man was possibly shot Tuesday evening.

Dispatchers say the man was shot twice in the back just before 6 p.m. Police are still not sure exactly where the shooting took place.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of East 86th street on a report of a person shot. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from injuries to his back.

The victim is being treated for his injuries at St. Vincent Hospital. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police are still investigating this incident. They are still not sure what led to the shooting. The victim told police he was shot somewhere on the Monon while he was walking home to the area of East 38th Street and Central Ave. He said a friend transported him to the 800 block of East 86th.

Police are using K9 officers to search for ballistic evidence. Police had originally determined a person of interest, but he has since been released.
