INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says the driver of a taxi cab was killed in an accident early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. near the intersection of Delaware and Washington Streets in downtown Indianapolis.
Officers say the driver of a Jeep ran a red light and hit the taxi, killing the driver.
The driver of the Jeep is in police custody. She has been identified as 23-year-old Whitney Gettys, according to a police report.
Medics took her to Wishard Memorial Hospital to be checked out. They say when she left the scene she was conscious and alert. Investigators say as they questioned Gettys, they could smell alcohol on her breath.
She faces preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a Class C felony.
