LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) - Two police cars and a stolen SUV were damaged when police say the suspect in the stolen vehicle fled from them.
The vehicle was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Teacup Way in Lawrence at around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
A short time later, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spotted the vehicle near 38th Street and Mitthoeffer Road, but police say the SUV refused to stop. Officers chased the vehicle until the suspect crashed it into a utility pole at 21st Street and Mitthoeffer. The pole snapped, falling on the stolen SUV and damaging two police cars.
East 21st Street was restricted while crews worked to remove the utility pole.
The suspect in the SUV — a 17-year-old — was injured due to a dog bite at the scene and was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital.
A New Castle man was arrested Wednesday and faces three preliminary felony charges.
