LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) - An off-duty Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer was struck by a drunken driver Tuesday night, police officials confirmed.

The incident happened at around 8:36 p.m. Tuesday in the 9400 block of Pendleton Pike.

IMPD officials said the officer, James Davie, was off-duty but driving a marked patrol car. His two daughters, ages 4 and 7, were also in the vehicle. All the passengers were OK after the crash.

Police said the officer was stopped in his patrol car at a traffic light when he was hit. The driver who hit him, 40-year-old Timothy Ray, of Indianapolis, had a .22 blood-alcohol content. Police say Ray fled in his 1999 Ford Mustang, struck a call box and grounded his vehicle on a median. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.

Eastbound Pendleton Pike at 56th Street was closed for about an hour while officers investigated the crash.
