INDIANAPOLIS, IN(WISH) - Apartment residents who live at the Andrews Gardens Apartments were forced to find places to stay after a tree fell across power lines, cutting power to the buildings.
The apartments are rented mostly to elderly and handicapped people.
No one was injured.
This was a precautionary measure because the power cut, disabled the fire alarms.
An IPL spokesman says they will not be able to restore power to the apartments until daylight because a tree must be removed from the power lines.
Building Manager Ebenezer Smith stated that all of the residents who depended on oxygen had found places to stay soon after the power outage.
Mr. Smith made the decision to request that Red Cross house the residents until the power can be restored for the residents' safety.
Two handicap-accessible IndyGo buses transported the 21 remaining residents to the 10th and Central Red Cross building to spend the night.
