Rain doesn't relieve water shortage

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Citizens Energy group says Wednesday night’s rain was helpful but it was nowhere near enough rain to lift the water ban in Indianapolis.

Storms overnight dumped between 2 and 4 inches of rain in parts of Central Indiana. Citizens says all three area reservoirs have risen slightly as of early Thursday morning.

Levels are expected to continue to rise Thursday as the full impact of the rain is felt. While the heavy rain is recharging area reservoir levels, Morse, Geist and Eagle Creek are all still below normal levels. Morse is below normal levels by as much as 5.8 feet.

The National Weather service says Central Indiana is still 7-8 inches below normal rainfall for this time of year. Citizens Energy says its customers are conserving water.
Usage this month is down an average of 30 million gallons per day.
