INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The expulsion of a high school student over a stun gun has prompted a rally ahead of an Indianapolis Public Schools board meeting.
The rally at Veteran’s Memorial Plaza will being at 5 p.m. Tuesday, and organizers hope it sends a message to end bullying.
After starting at the plaza, the group will then march to the education building. It’s all in an effort to stop bullying and persuade IPS to take a closer look at its bullying policy and make revisions.
Earlier this month, Darnell ‘Dynasty’ Young was expelled for having a stun gun at school. That stun gun was given to him by his mother as a form of protection against bullies. Moments after, Young was taken out of class and later expelled for carrying a weapon at school.
The district told 24-Hour News 8 shortly after that decision, while they do not condone bullying the district also does not allow weapons to be brought onto school campuses for any reason. They also told 24-Hour News 8 the current bullying and weapons policies are clear and not in need of revision.
Organizers say that the rally is planned to be peaceful and the supporters plan to observe the meeting in silence.
