INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Troy Riggs stood inside the Firefighters Union Hall with members of the Public Safety Department in the back to announce his new initiatives that he believes will make the Department of Public Safety more effective, efficient and transparent.
“The depth and breath of what Troy is talking about here I have not seen,” said Mayor Greg Ballard. “He is in a territory that other cities could be envious of in a couple of years.”
The plan would create 25-30 teams that will be made up of public safety workers, residents and other city stakeholders. Each team will have it’s own mission, goals, and objectives. Four of the teams currently create our DPS Business Plans, Police Morale, DPS Vehicles, Police Personnel Allocations.
“I want to commend him for it I think it is wonderful,” said Mary Moriarty Adams Council Member 17th district.
The group’s findings and recommendations will be found on the Department of Public Safety’s website . The department is encouraging residents who have concerns or ideas about the newly created teams to email dps@indy.gov.
Riggs believes this new approach will give residents an open look inside the department of Public Safety.
“It will be very clear to the citizens in this community if we are succeeding or failing quite frankly it will give citizens the ability to hold us accountable,” said Riggs.
