INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Troy Riggs, Indianapolis' new public safety director, says public safety remains the top priority as officials continue their investigation into the explosion on the south side of Indianapolis that killed two people, leveled two homes and several damaged dozens of others.

He noted that the explosion is very much in the beginning stages, and investigators would be on site for at least days. Also planned is extra police presence, in an effort to protect possessions even in the heavily damaged homes, he said.

Access to the Richmond Hill area will remain restricted for security purposes and to ensure public safety, as there are continued concerns about the condition of many of the damaged homes, he said. Click play in the video player above to hear more.
