INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The east side search for a missing man has been suspended after he returned home just before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Officials say someone who was driving by the area recognized Coy Wilkinson, 77, picked him up, drove him back to his mobile home, dropped him off and left.
Police say around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning Wilkinson failed to return home after taking his Yorkshire Terrier named Milo outside his residence near South Kitley Avenue and Brookville Road. His wife told police he is in the early stages of Alzheimers.
She said it was not unusual for him to walk his dog at late hours, but he did not return as usual.
Around 4:15 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers along with Indianapolis firefighters launched a full urban search and rescue operation in the area in an effort to locate the man. Around 6 a.m., about 60 people were out searching for Wilkinson, including one canine and two bloodhounds.
Officials say their major concern was exposure to the chilly overnight temperatures, which dropped into the teens.
