INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police released a timeline Thursday of Wednesday’s deadly crime spree that spanned across counties.

They say the first crime happened just after 7:30 a.m., when someone hit a woman over the head with a pistol in her garage, and then tore her purse from her.

The second crime happened in Southport around 7:40 a.m.

62-year-old Kenny Winslow says he was out for his morning walk.

“I noticed a car, a crème colored car, parked in the middle of Tammy Drive. It was just stopped,” he explained. “All of a sudden, the car started coming into Earl Court.”

He says a teen got out with a gun.

“He says, give me your wallet, I told him I said, I don’t carry a wallet. He said, give me your wallet. He’s got this gun right at me. Well, it looked like it was a fake weapon.”

Winslow, who'd been in the army reserves, said he didn't think twice when he fought back, trying to get the attention of a neighbor nearby.

“I put my hand on his hand with the pistol, and put it down at a 45 degree angle,” he explained. “I said, come on, let’s get it on, let’s get it on. He was starting to back up, and I’m going after him.”

He said the gunman ran back to his car, while Winslow ran to a nearby home.

“The good lord was looking out for me that day,” he added.

That’s because just about a half hour later, police say someone shot and killed a man on Babette Court.

“That’s when I got a little shaky, and the officer looked at me and said, ‘Kenny, that wasn’t a fake pistol.’”

But Winslow maintains, he feels this spree was an isolated incident, and he won't let it change - his weekly routine.
