SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A fire that destroyed a room at a Shelbyville senior living complex caused residents of the residence to be evacuated Thursday night, according to our partners at The Shelbyville News .
The fire started just before 5:30 p.m. at the Charles Major Manor apartments located at 105 East Franklin Street in Shelbyville. The fire destroyed a room on the second floor. One resident said she heard a loud boom.
The resident of the room was able to get most of the way down the stairs when responding officers arrived. They helped her out of the building and brought her to Major Hospital for medical treatment. No one else was injured during the fire.
Firefighters brought residents to the Sanctuary of Shelbyville as a temporary spot for people to stay out of the heat.
The building has 49 occupied rooms. Some residents are staying with relatives while they are displaced. There has not been word on when the residents will be able to return to the apartments.
