GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - Sentencing is scheduled for next month for a 54-year-old in the fatal stabbing an Indianapolis man at a West Michigan motel.
The Grand Rapids Press reports Jack Jacqmain pleaded no contest but mentally ill Monday to second-degree murder in the August 2010 stabbing of 31-year-old Mark Moore at a Motel 6 in Walker. The plea isn't an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing.
Jacqmain could get life in prison when sentenced Sept. 10. Under a deal with prosecutors, the minimum is expected to be 22 /12 years to 46 years.
Moore was staying at the motel on business.
Defense lawyer Val Foster says the plea may bring closure for Moore's family and will allow Jacqmain to get mental health treatment in the prison system.
