INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Family, friends, coworkers and scores of emergency responders attended the funeral service for EMS Private Timothy McCormick on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old died early Saturday morning after the ambulance he was driving was hit by a car near the intersection of Senate Avenue and St. Clair.  His coworker, Specialist Cody Medley, also died as a result of the crash.

McCormick’s funeral began with a procession from Crown Hill Cemetery where a visitation had been held Monday afternoon.

Dozens of EMS, fire, and police vehicles took part in the procession which ended at the steps of Saints Peters and Paul Cathedral.  An Honor Guard consisting of six EMS workers carried the casket out of an ambulance, up the church stairs and into the cathedral.

Family members say the 90 minute funeral mass was a celebration of McCormick’s life.

“We as a family are overwhelmed by the love, respect, and support that the entire Indianapolis community has given to us” said McCormick’s uncle, James Leddy.  “I can't say how much we appreciate it.”

On Wednesday, a joint memorial service will be held for both Private McCormick and Specialist Medley at 10 a.m. at Clowes Memorial Hall on Butler University's campus. The service will be open to the public.

On Friday, a private memorial service will be held for Medley.
