'Shuffle' vid not meant for public view

With the Super Bowl in Indianapolis only a few months away, participants in a promotional video that paid homage to the "Super Bowl Shuffle" video from the 1980s said that video was never meant for public consumption.

It was a way, the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association said, to reach out to meeting planners in Chicago, and responses from the intended recipients have been positive, the ICVA said.

But the video was put on YouTube, and was discovered by others far and wide. And it earned more jeers than cheers in that wider audience.

"There is a potential backlash against folks who aren't the target audience," said Leonard Hoops, CEO of ICVA. "The target audience has been nothing but positive feedback so far. We haven't had anything negative from any of the meeting professionals that we've sent this to in Chicago."

The ICVA said the stunt was worth it, because it got them closer to landing a convention that could bring crowds and money to the city. Even if the rest of the world didn't find the video quite so appealing.
