Small plane crashes into field

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A pilot suffered only minor injuries after a plane crash on Indianapolis’ south side.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses say the pilot took off in his single-engine, two-seater, from a field near a large get-together at 129 W. Sumner Avenue.

Police identified him as 35-year-old Jeremy Milless of Monrovia. He works for Sarah Fischer Hartman Racing.

A neighbor captured the crash on home video. Kathy Schlueter saw it all happen, describing a nose dive after the plane took off.

“He went back to that corner over there, and just kind of flew up over the house, and the wind, I heard, caught it.. he was just flying and down on the ground he went,” Schlueter described.

But, she added, the crash was concerning not only for the pilot, but for all the people at that get-together, close to the crash.

“Knowing all those people were back there, it was very scary,” she added.

Sgt. Richard Myers with Indiana State Police said Milless walked away from the crash. He was taken to Methodist Hospital with a shoulder injury.

Myers said the FAA is now investigating. They’ll determine the cause of the crash.

“With the pictures I’ve seen, it’s very lucky that he sustained only the minor injuries he did, we're very thankful that is only what happened,” added Sgt. Myers.

Police say they don't believe alcohol was involved.
