Snowfall has drivers questioning snow removal

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Friday morning's rush hour slowed drivers more than usual. A morning snowfall caused backups, created accidents, and left drivers frustrated.

Road crews were out all night, pre-treating the roads ahead of Friday morning's snowfall. INDOT crews were called in starting at 4 a.m. DPW workers started around 6 a.m.

Despite the salt trucks being on the roads some drivers saw little results from snow removal.

"For the most part it was about timing. We had rush hour traffic coming in with the snow," said Nathan Riggs, INDOT Spokesman.

Indiana State Police Sergeant Rich Meyers also called it timing. He estimates there were 75 crashes during morning rush hour.

In most of those crashes police reported drivers failed to leave enough space between them and other drivers.

INDOT decided not to salt the roads hours before the snow storm because of fear the salt would be swept away before the storm hit.

DPW plans on sending out crews through the night to ensure the roads don't freeze.
