JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Thursday morning, travel warnings remained in effect in eight counties across central Indiana, including Brown and Henry. That was down from 13 counties on Wednesday evening.

A travel warning means travel may be restricted to emergency personnel only. Citizens were asked to stay off the roads.

Emergency management officials told 24-Hour News 8 Wednesday night that they planned to begin to clear secondary streets overnight, while cars were still off them.

For the most part, drivers who braved the winter weather said they were impressed with the work city, county, and state road workers were doing.

“They’re in pretty good shape. I think they’ve done a really good job,” driver Nancy Plake said Wednesday.

As the night wore on, roads were slick and icy, and plow drivers were busy.

“U.S. 31’s been pretty messed up all day. I got a four-wheel drive, and my wife has one, and you had to have four wheel drive to get through there if you tried to turn anything,” said Brad Roberts. “It was probably 3:30 or 4 before they got out and really started plowing it good.”

Officials said they’ll continue to evaluate travel statuses . Thursday morning, several counties downgraded their statuses , allowing more travel on their roadways but still urging caution.

Drivers were urged to use caution even if it’s not snowing, as many roads will still be slick and snow covered, especially in neighborhoods.
