Prosecutor: Explosion investigated as homicide

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A south side Indianapolis explosion that killed two people is now a homicide investigation with two rewards being offered, Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry said Monday night.

Investigators spoke to Richmond Hill residents Monday night before briefing the media on the development in the investigation.

Curry said investigators are looking for the public's help with any information about a white van seen in the subdivision. Officials want to know who was inside.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is offering a $10,000 reward for an arrest and conviction in the case.

Curry said details of the investigation — beyond the fact that they're looking for information on the white van — could not be made available.

About 80 homes were damaged when the explosion rocked the Richmond Hill subdivision on the night of Nov. 10. Dion and Jennifer Longworth were killed in the blast, and their funeral was Monday . Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard attended the funeral and spoke to the media Monday night.

"There is a search for truth, and there is a search for justice," Ballard said of the investigation into the explosion.

The Longworth home was destroyed, along with one owned by Monserrate Shirley . She wasn't home at the time of the explosion; she was in southern Indiana at a casino with her boyfriend.

Investigators haven't named any suspects.
