INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - In the short time since the explosion happened, people have stepped up and donated more than enough.

The American Red Cross says they don't need anymore donated items. Instead, they're asking people to give money.

Soon after the explosion the principal of Mary Bryan Elementary School stepped up and opened their doors to those in need. The principal says donations were brought in by the truck loads and continued to pour into the gymnasium on Sunday.

People gave clothing, diapers, food and water -- even pet food for those who had to evacuate.

The Red Cross says more than enough was donated.

“Please do not bring anymore items to this location, particularly. If you're going to make a donation we want to stress it is a cash donation made online, that is the best means of helping the people that have been affected,” says Jordan Whitt of the American Red Cross.

Jordan Whitt says donating money is the best way to help. However people can also give gift cards. You can donate to t he Red Cross website .
